Cricut 101: Can I upload my own images? + CTR Bag

Often times when I make things on my Cricut I like to use my own images. Whether that be something that I create somewhere or an image that I bought or found online, there are many times that I have a specific design that I want to use that is not found in Design Space. You can use just about any image you want and it really isn't hard to do at all.
Not long ago I wrote a post about how to upload your own images and made a screenshot video showing how to do it. I will share the video here again.

This time I was wanting to make a little gift for my nephew who was getting baptized last week. In the LDS church kids get baptized after they turn 8. One of the most recognizable symbols in the primary (church organization for children) is the CTR shield. The CTR shield is a shield shaped symbol with the letters CTR inside, which stand for Choose the Right. CTR rings are often worn as a reminder the choose the right. Although you can get CTR rings and other items in many colors and styles, the traditional color is green. I decided that I wanted to make my nephew something with the CTR shield on it and I had a little green bag leftover from another project that I thought would be the perfect starting point. I decided it would be cute to add a CTR shield in white iron on to the front of the bag and he could use it to carry things to church, a notebook and crayons to color or something like that. The only problem is that with it being a symbol specific to one religion I knew it wasn't something I was going to find in design space so I would need to upload my own image for this project. Once I found an image to use and uploaded it it was a really quick and easy project. I threw a couple small things in the bag and the gift was ready for the baptism boy.

How to Make a CTR Bag

You will need:

  • A small canvas bag (I used one that came in a pack from Oriental Trading Company)
  • Cricut Explore
  • Iron On
  • Mat
  • Iron or Heat Press
  • Pressing Cloth
  • Image that you want to use

Instructions:

First you will need to upload the image into design space. Once that is done it is super easy. All you need to do is adjust the size so that it is the size that you need for your bag. Then cut it out. Be sure to mirror you image so that it is cut correctly to iron on to the bag.

Weed the decal and place in desired location. Press until the decal is securely adhered to the bag. I always like to use a pressing cloth when I iron on my decals. Peel of the plastic layer and your bag is ready to fill.
