Friday Five: 5 Crocheted Christmas Ornaments

It is Friday again, which means time for another Friday Five. Since Christmas is less than a week away this will be the last Friday Five that will be Christmas themed. I had actually planned this theme for last week but I ended up getting sick and not getting the post up, but I think it is actually a really good last minute Christmas theme since they are all small projects that don't require a lot of time to make. The theme for the final Christmas themed Friday Five is Crocheted Christmas Ornaments.

I have made some crocheted iced gingerbread ornaments, and some Cricut felt and iron on gingerbread ornaments so I figured it was time to make some painted wooden gingerbread ornaments.

I recently shared a pattern for some crocheted ornaments that fit over a Christmas ball ornament. I had gotten a big box of the ornaments and after I made the last ones, using the trinity stitch, I had several ideas for other ornaments that I could make using different stitches. I decided to make a second set with a different stitch. Since Christmas is coming up fast I probably won't make anymore for this year, but there are more stitch designs I want to try so there will likely be more next year.

Last year I bought a big box of clear ball Christmas ornaments with a few different projects in mind, and I made a few of them, but I had every intention of using some of them to make some crochet covered ornaments but with other projects I was working on it didn't happen last year. So this year I pulled out my box of ornaments and made some quick crocheted ornaments.

It is time for another edition of Creative Crafts. This month the theme is Last Minute Holiday Crafts. I have to admit when I saw that was the theme for this month my first thought was that it isn't last minute yet, it will just be the beginning of December. Then I realized Christmas is just barely over 2 weeks away. With all of the school events, holiday parties, presents to get, and everything else there is to do between now and then it is definitely feeling like we are reaching the last minute part of the holidays.

Christmas Ornaments with Cricut Materials

-This post sponsored by Cricut, all ideas and opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.-

I use my Cricut all the time when I need to make a quick craft, and during the holiday season that is especially the case. I was thinking about all of the different materials that my Cricut Maker 3 can cut, and all of the different types of projects that I can make with it, and I thought it would be fun to do a Christmas project using a variety of different materials and project types to kind of showcase what you can do with a Cricut Maker.

Wooden Bead Christmas Ornaments

I have never been the Pinterest perfect, Instagram worthy Christmas tree kind of person. I love pretty trees, and sometimes I do want to have a perfectly coordinated, themed, pretty tree. But the fact of the matter is our big tree that we put up in the living room is a crazy assortment of ornaments, some from when I was a kid, some from my husband, ornaments that our kids have made or been given. There are ornaments from vacations we went on and ornaments that that represent favorite things. And to make it even better we let the kids decorate it so they are never evenly dispersed, some places may not have any ornaments while others have 2 to a branch. The top is usually a little more sparse than the bottom. They each have their own box of ornaments that they put on the tree every year, and they love it. It is fun to watch them pull out the ornaments and remember their ornaments and when the made them, or who gave them to them. And any time that I wish for a minute that this year we could have that beautiful Instagram worthy tree it all goes away when I see the kids excitedly pulling out their ornaments and we decorate our crazy mishmash of a Christmas tree. I love our tree.

Today I am excited to be joining the 2021 Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along. Every Monday and Thursday from October 4-December 16, different designers will be sharing free crochet patterns to help you get started on you holiday crafting. Each patter will either be a one-skein project, or a scrappy project that you can probably make using your stash.

Crochet Iced Gingerbread Ornaments

The other day I was scrolling through Facebook and one of my friends had shared a picture of some gingerbread cookies they had made. They were decorated with lines of white icing and when I saw them I immediately had the idea to try to crochet something similar.

Personalized Ornaments with the Cricut Maker

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Every year at Christmas time my family has an ornament exchange. We draw names ahead of time and then we get an ornament for the person whose name we drew. Each year it is fun to try to find an ornament that is perfect for the person you drew.

Crocheted Bear Ornament

One last Christmas in July post today. Although I will have a small gift idea, part of the Little Gifts Sew Along, to share tomorrow but it isn't specifically Christmas themed.

Lacy Crocheted Angel Ornament

This week I wanted to share some "Christmas in July" projects. It is crazy to think that Christmas is only 5 months away. Now is a great time to get started on Christmas projects, too often I end up waiting until November to get started and end up only finishing half of the things on my list.

Crocheted Jute Ornaments

A few days ago I shared an ornament that I had originally shared on Craftaholics Anonymous a few years ago and never shared here on my blog. These ornaments I am sharing today are another of those projects.

Geeky Mini Christmas Tree

My husband likes to put up a small Christmas tree on his desk at work. Last year we got him a small (18") tree for his desk, but we didn't have any small ornaments to decorate it. This year I decided we needed to do something about that.

Easy Embroidered Felt Snowflake Ornaments

A few years ago when I first started my blog I spent a year as a contributor on Craftaholics Anonymous. Each month I would share a new pattern or tutorial there and usually I would share it on my blog a few weeks later. Some of them I never shared here, either it was past the season or I just never got around to it. I decided it was about time to share them, especially a couple that were Christmas patterns.

ASL Christmas Crafts

-This post sponsored by Cricut-

About a month ago I shared a collection of t-shirts that I made that had words fingerspelled in American Sign Language. I shared a little bit about how we use ASL in our home as 3 of our 6 kids are deaf. I was kind of surprised by the numbers people who commented on how excited they were by the designs because they too were deaf, or someone in their family was, or a close friend, or they were an interpreter, or someone in their family was, or they had some other personal connection to sign language. It was really fun to find that connection and community. But even if you don't have as personal of a connection to ASL it is still a neat language to learn and you never know when you may be able to use it.

Cricut Maker vs. Explore Air 2: All About the Adaptive Tool System

-This post sponsored by Cricut, may contain affiliate links-

I love using my Cricut, I had the Explore Air 2 before getting a Maker about a year ago. One of the questions I have heard a lot both in person and online is people wondering if the Maker is worth it, or how to know which machine to choose. The truth is they are both great machines, which one is right for you really depends on how you plan to use your Cricut. Today I am going to share a bit about why I love the Maker and share a project that I made that uses all of the tools currently available for the Maker's adaptive tool system.

Christmas in July: 20+ Free Christmas Crochet Patterns

I know July seems like it is way too early to be thinking about Christmas but I feel like whether it is decor or gifts, if I don't get an early start it doesn't get done. Every year it seems like in November I start thinking of all of the projects I want to make and then between my long list of projects and all of the parties and busyness of the season I end up working on them up to the last minute and still end up only finishing half of the things on my list. Plus some things you want to have ready before Christmas, like advent calendars and decorations, so you can put them out at the beginning of the season. In this post I am going to share some of my favorite 5 Little Monsters Christmas Crochet Patterns.

Crocheted Snowflakes

-This project sponsored by Darice-

I shared this project over on the Darice blog over a month ago but somehow in the holiday craziness I never got it up on my blog. Luckily it is a super quick Christmas project that you still have time to make. I love the look of crocheted snowflakes but I don't particularly like working with thread so I decided to make some out of yarn instead.

Gingerbread Man Ornament

-This post sponsored by Fairfield World-

Another new ornament that I made for Fairfield World this Christmas is this little Gingerbread Man Ornament. It is crocheted all in one piece, no sewing parts on at the end. A some decoration with felt, buttons, and stitching to complete him.
