Friday Five: 5 Nativity Projects to Make

Last week the theme of the Friday Five was Advent Calendars and I mentioned that advent calendars are one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Another favorite tradition of mine is putting out our nativities. I love nativities at Christmas time. When I was a kid my mom had a special nativity set that we put out every year and I have fond memories of unwrapping each piece as we put it out each year. I love all of the different styles and types of nativities, including making some of my own.

Nativity Countdown to Christmas Chalkboard

A couple of days ago I shared a Countdown to Christmas chalkboard. I found several designs already made in Design Space and I chose one to put on my chalkboard. This design, that I am sharing today, is one that I came up with myself rather than one of the pre-designed options.

Christmas in July: 20+ Free Christmas Crochet Patterns

I know July seems like it is way too early to be thinking about Christmas but I feel like whether it is decor or gifts, if I don't get an early start it doesn't get done. Every year it seems like in November I start thinking of all of the projects I want to make and then between my long list of projects and all of the parties and busyness of the season I end up working on them up to the last minute and still end up only finishing half of the things on my list. Plus some things you want to have ready before Christmas, like advent calendars and decorations, so you can put them out at the beginning of the season. In this post I am going to share some of my favorite 5 Little Monsters Christmas Crochet Patterns.

Kid Friendly DIY Wooden Nativity

-Product for this post provided by Oriental Trading Company-

I found these cute little wooden nativities on Oriental Trading and I thought they would be really fun for kids to make. The sets of little peg dolls include Joseph, Mary, and the Baby Jesus. You can also get a stable to set behind them. I thought the kids would love painting and decorating them so I ordered a set with the stables. I also ordered some painting supplies and felt to use to decorate. They come in a set of 6 which happens to be perfect for my family.

Silent Night Free Christmas Printable

Today I am participating in the Christmas Wonderful series on Design Dazzle. I made a free Christmas printable inspired by one of my favorite Christmas songs, Silent Night. The lyrics are on a blue watercolor background along with a star and a manger. It is available as an 8" x 10"  that you can print and frame. A quick and easy addition to your Christmas decor.

Angel: Crochet Nativity Add-On

*Purchase an ad-free version of this pattern on Esty or Ravelry*

A couple of years ago I made my crocheted nativity and it has been one of my all time favorite crochet projects. I started out with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, a star, 2 shepherds, a donkey, and a sheep. Then about a year later I added 3 wisemen. Now I have a couple more pieces that I want to add to the set and one of them I am sharing the pattern for today, an angel.

Three Wise Men: Crochet Nativity Add-On

Over a year ago, in Novmber of 2015, I posted the pattern for my crocheted Nativity set. From that time I had planned to make a set of Wise Men to go along with it. Originally I hoped to make them that year and publish the pattern before Christmas but with the craziness of that time of year it didn't happen. Then I thought maybe I would try to get it done in July for a Christmas in July type post which would give people plenty of time to work on it for Christmas, but I had a baby in July so a lot of things that I had planned didn't happen. Then I thought I would get it done before Christmas for sure. But once again I didn't get them done. I thought about waiting to finish them and post the pattern until closer to Christmas but then I realized that I obviously have a problem with getting them done by the time I plan to so I thought it would be best if I just got them done now and posted the pattern. It may seem like kind of a wierd time to publish a Christmas pattern but I figured it was either get it up now or it might never get done. Besides, today actually happens to be 3 Kings Day so in a way it works. Also, now anyone who wants to make a nativity set for Chirstmas has almost a whole year to get them done.
