This is my 4th Annual Book Inspired Craft Week, where each day this week I am sharing a favorite book and pairing it with a craft project inspired by the book. Most of the books that I have shared over the years I have done this series are ones that I remember from my childhood and this book fits in that category. The book that inspired today's craft is The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes.

My kids are always begging me to paint, it is one of their favorite craft projects, and although it can get a little messy I feel like it is one of the easiest to let them do. A new month means another Team Creative Crafts collaboration and this month the theme is back to school crafts. It is crazy to think that summer is already coming to an end and kids are heading back to school soon, or in some places already have. My kids head back in a couple of weeks and we have been spending a lot of time lately getting things ready, going to registrations, school shopping, and attempting to get back in a good routine for the school year.

Summer time can be a little rough with kids, at least in my house. On days when we aren't doing anything all my kids want to do is sit with a screen in front of their face. We have rules about when they can have technology, things they have to do before they can have it (reading, chores, etc.), time limits, and all of that. But without fail, every single morning, I have at least one kid begging me to let them have technology early. You would think by halfway through summer break they would quit asking, but they have not given up yet.

I was putting together some email newsletters recently, last month for St. Patrick's Day and this month for Easter, and I was looking through projects I had previously made for those holidays so that I could share them. Fall may not officially be here until later in September, but once the kids are in school and September hits I am ready for fall. And for me that means making fall projects and putting up fall decorations. I love fall, it is, and always has been my favorite season. The colors, the cool weather, everything about it, I just love it. Then the fall leads into the holiday season, which I also love, so everything about this time of the year is my favorite.

This week has been a crazy one in our house, as we adjust to new schools, new schedules, and getting back into the routine of the school year. All 6 of my kids are in school this year, the older kids started at the beginning of the week, and my youngest had his first day of kindergarten today.

This week I decided to do one of my kids favorite crafts, that I think they first tried at a summer camp, and once they did we started buying the supplies for them to do it at home and it became a favorite activity all year round. It is fun because it is something I remember doing as a kid too.

I grew up in a very crafty house, my mom taught me to make lots of different kinds of crafts, to sew, and crochet, but I still feel like I also have great memories of making crafts at my church girl's camp in the summer, or other activities where we would make simple crafts. There is a certain nostalgia that comes with those summer camp type crafts. I think it is because they are something that most of us probably experienced in some way as a kid and it brings back those memories of childhood, and some of those earliest creative, crafty experiences.

With the school year ending, or already ended for some people, it is time to start thinking of activities to fill the summer. We try to limit how much screen time our kids can have in the summer and I know it won't be long in our house before we start hearing kids say that they are bored and that there is nothing to do. Mostly just as an attempt to get us to give in and let them have more screen time.

I wanted to share these little clay ring dishes, or trinket this week, because I thought with Mother's Day coming up they would cute gift to make for moms and grandmas. And they are simple enough that kids can help. I know when my kids saw that I bought clay they immediately started planning what colors they wanted to use and what they were going to make.

When I was thinking of something I could make for a quick and easy Valentine project that you be made last minute I decided to turn to my kids favorite craft, Perler Beads. Fun for any age and they definitely fit the quick and easy requirement, although once we get them out my kids can spend hours playing and creating with them.

My kids love to paint, they are constantly asking me if they can paint something. Sometimes it drives me crazy because  it usually means getting into my stuff, my paints and blanks that I have for specific projects, and making a big mess. But I also love seeing their creativity and the things that they make when I just let them create. 

Tie-Dye Baby Onesies

 A couple of weeks ago when we tie-dyed masks I had some dye left in the bottles and didn't want it to go to waste so I looked around to see what else I had that I could tie-dye. I happened to have a package of white onesies that I had picked up one time when they were on clearance for really cheap. I thought they would be good to have on hand for iron on projects, and had used a few for that, but I figured they would be fun to dye as well.
