Life has been super busy lately and I have had a really hard time finding time to crochet or make other craft projects. When I am in that situation I really start to miss making things but also find it can be kind of hard to get started again. I love finding simple projects that I can finish quickly to help me feel that satisfaction that comes with making something. This simple project fit the bill perfectly.

Crochet projects in the summer is kind of an interesting topic. Traditionally I think most people associate crochet with fall and winter, colder weather seasons, making things like hats, scarves, and blankets. But the truth is there are so many things that you can make and use during the summer, as well as plenty of things that you can make year round. Some of my favorite summer projects to make are things like bags, water bottle carriers, dishcloths, and other small, quick to make projects. Then there is always amigurumi that is fun to make anytime!

I wanted to make a quick crochet project that could be used for Valentine's Day and I decided I wanted to make a little pouch that could be filled with treats. I have a couple of these on my blog from previous years and I decided that this time I wanted to make something that could work for Valentine's Day, but not be only for Valentine's Day.

As we start getting closer to summer I always find myself gravitating towards crochet projects made with cotton yarn. There is just something about working with cotton yarn that feels summery to me. I think part of it is the fact that it isn't really a yarn you use for warmth so it isn't used as much for cold weather accessories and winter projects.

A few weeks ago I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a picture someone shared of a crocheted drawstring bag that was a peachy color with green at the top. For some reason, even though the bag was just a normal rectangle shape, and it was peach not orange, and had absolutely nothing to do with carrots, it immediately sparked an idea in my mind to make a carrot shaped/colored drawstring bag for Easter.

I have seen mandala style projects all over the place and Cricut has a lot of fun ones, different animals and other designs, available in Design Space. I don't love the weeding process, I mean, it isn't that I absolutely hate it but it definitely isn't my favorite part of making a vinyl or iron on projects. And those project take a lot of weeding.

A couple of weeks ago I went to Micheals, not really intending to buy anything, just to look around and waste some time while my husband got a haircut next door. But it turned out they were having a big clearance sale and I ended up leaving with a big bag full of stuff. Mostly kid craft kits that I got for my kids to use, but I also grabbed a few other things. One of those things was this rope handled tote bag.

School supplies have started showing up in stores over the last couple of weeks and at first I thought that seemed so early, but then I realized my kids go back to school in less than a month. Crazy! And I know some people go back even sooner than they do. I am not sure where the summer went exactly, but I guess it is time to think about going back to school.

I actually planned on stopping with the market bag I shared last week, but as I was working on it I remembered a little crossbody purse that I had made for one of my girls a couple of years ago, and thought it would also work really well with this stitch pattern.

Last month I shared a water bottle holder pattern using the same stitch pattern I had used for my Aurora Scarf and Aurora Hat, and it is such a great stitch pattern for summer crochet projects that I needed to make another project. It is a little bit open with the mesh rows, but also has some nice texture with the crossed double crochet stitches.
