I can hardly believe that it is almost time for school to start again, I have even seen some people saying school has already started for them. My kids go back in a couple of weeks. As a result the last few weeks have included some back to school prep, registration, back to school shopping, school supplies, and all of that stuff.

My kids are always asking to paint stuff. It is one of their favorite crafty things to do. I typically have a little stash of stuff that can be painted in my craft supplies, unfinished wood stuff, canvases, etc., and they love looking through it to find stuff they can paint.

It is time for another monthly collaboration with Team Creative Crafts. This month, being the month that the majority of students head back to school the theme is, you guessed it- Back to School. I haven't really done a lot of back to school crafting this year, but I knew exactly what I wanted to do because it has been on my to-do list for a couple of years.
Resin Initial Keychains

Last month as I shared some Harry Potter themed crafts I made some resin keychains. It was the first resin project I shared here on the blog, though we did try a few things as practice before that. When I made them I had a little bit of extra resin left so I used it to make a few extra keychains, specifically using some of my kids first initials.
School Supply Perler Bead Designs
School supplies have been on our minds lately as we have been preparing for the kids to go back to school this week. I actually love school supplies so this is always kind of a fun time for me. I don't know what it is about a brand new box of crayons, or an empty new notebook, but they make me happy.

Kids heading back to school in our house always means getting school supplies for home too. Making sure we have everything ready for homework needs, like pens and pencils, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue, all organized and ready to use. There are tons of different ways you can store those kinds of things, but one thing that works great for pens and pencils and stuff like that, and is pretty inexpensive and easy to find, is pint size mason jars. And crocheted jar covers are an easy way to add some color and cuteness.

I know I am kind of late on the back to school stuff this year since school has already started back up in a lot of places, but I am trying to squeeze a few last minute projects in before my kids head back to school next week. If I am being completely honest- I am so ready for my kids to be back in school, to get back into the routine of the school year. Laid back summer is nice, but I am ready to get that structure back, as well as some kid free time during the day to get stuff done. And the truth is, they are just as ready to go back. They miss seeing their friends everyday, and luckily all of our kids enjoy school for the most part.

This week has been a crazy one in our house, as we adjust to new schools, new schedules, and getting back into the routine of the school year. All 6 of my kids are in school this year, the older kids started at the beginning of the week, and my youngest had his first day of kindergarten today.

We have spent the last couple of weeks getting all of the last minute back to school stuff done because our kids start next week. In some ways it is crazy to think that summer is over, but I am also excited to get back into the routine of the school year. It has been a crazy couple of weeks taking each of the kids shopping for clothes and supplies, going to orientations and registrations days, checkups and kindergarten shots, all of the stuff it takes to get 6 kids ready. But I think we are finally there and it is crazy to think that next week all 6 kids will be in school and for the first time in almost 15 years I won't have any kids home with me during the day.

A couple of weeks ago I received a really fun package in the mail, full of fun new products for me to use in today's post. Laura Kelly is known for her cute doodles and she is always sharing ideas to promote kindness. She recently partnered with Therm O Web to create a line of stamps created from her doodles, as well as some foils and cute patterned toner sheets to use with the foils. And today I have the opportunity of participating in the Back to School with Kindness Hop with Therm O Web, Laura Kelly, and several other designers to share these new products.

I know some kids are already back in school, some like my kids head back in the next couple of weeks, and others still have another month before they go back. But if you are in one of the last two categories you are probably getting school supplies ready. Both for kids to take to school, and to have at home for homework.

Do you have kids heading back to school this fall, or is everything virtual where you are? We had a choice of in person or virtual school for the first quarter and it was such a hard decision. We went back and forth so many times, feeling like there really was no right answer, but in the end we decided to send them back in person. My kids start next week, but I know some of the schools around us are starting this week.
Idea Journal with Vinyl Decal
With all of the back to school prep for kids I thought I would make something for myself too. As much as I love using technology for keeping track of things, I am definitely a pencil and paper person for some things. Especially when it comes to ideas and brainstorming.
Learning is my Superpower T-Shirt
Yesterday I shared a back to school t-shirt design, and today I have another one. Just like the "Smart is the new Cool" design, I wanted it to be a design that was not specific to the first day of school but would still be fun for kids heading back to school.
Smart is the New Cool T-Shirt
I wanted to make a couple of Back-to School themed t-shirts this year, but I kind of wanted to do something that wasn't specific to the first day of school or the grade the child is going into. I have seen a lot of the "First Day of First Grade" type of shirts and although they are fun and cute I feel like they are only really good to wear that one day. If I am going to make a shirt I would rather it be something that can be worn over and over again.
10 Crocheted Pencil Bags
I have created quite a few pencil bags over the years, including 2 new ones this past week. I thought I would put together a quick round up of all of my pencil bags, and I can add to it as I design more.

Crocheted Mermaid Tail Pencil Pouch
School starts in less than 2 weeks for us so I have had school supplies on my mind. One of my favorite back to school crochet projects is pen or pencil pouches. I have made quite a few different styles that I have shared here, but todays pencil pouch is a little different than the others I have made. It was inspired by my daughter who loves mermaids.
