5 Little Monsters: Polka Dot Puffs Hat

Polka Dot Puffs Hat

I have had this hat pattern ready to post for a long time but life has been so crazy lately I haven't gotten it up. I debated whether or not to post it now since it is spring here and the weather is starting to warm up, not really hat weather anymore. But then I figured a lot of us are stuck inside right now, what better than a new crochet project. Make a bunch now and you will be all set for winter, whether for yourself, family, gifts, sales, or whatever.

This hat pattern uses 2 colors, you can either do 2 solid colors (like in the teal example), or a solid paired with a variegated or striped yarn (like in the navy example). Either way you want to choose 2 colors with a lot of contrast so your puff stitches will stand out.

The puff stitches worked in a contrasting color give a polka dot design to the hat. The yarn is carried under the stitches between the puffs so you won't have lots of ends to weave in.

The pattern comes in two sizes, child and adult.

How to Crochet the Polka Dot Puffs Hat

You will need:

Instructions:

Note: normally when I change colors in the middle of the row I change to the new color in the last step of the stitch before (ie:when working a single crochet in the last stitch of the first color I will insert my hook, pull up yarn in the first color, then yarn over with the new color and pull through). This time I did it a little bit different in order to get the look I wanted. You will finish the single crochet before the puff stitch in the mc, then work the puff stitch in the cc until the last step where you pull through all of the loops, for that step you will yarn over with the mc, the pull through. You will start the puff and end the puff with the mc on your hook.

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch

Puff Stitch: Yarn over, insert hook and pull up loop, yarn over, insert hook and pull up loop, yarn over, insert hook and pull up loop (you should have 7 loops on your hook), yarn over (with mc), pull through all loops
