Aurora Market Bag

Last month I shared a water bottle holder pattern using the same stitch pattern I had used for my Aurora Scarf and Aurora Hat, and it is such a great stitch pattern for summer crochet projects that I needed to make another project. It is a little bit open with the mesh rows, but also has some nice texture with the crossed double crochet stitches.

I mentioned in that post that I also had plans for a crocheted market bag using the same stitch pattern, and finally I got that pattern done and am ready to share it.

Market bags are a great summer crochet project for several reasons. They are pretty quick to make, and they are useful. You can use it as an actual market bag and fill it up with produce at a farmer's market or grocery store, or you can use it on your summer outings to carry all of your stuff to the pool or the park. Or you can even use them to carry around your next crochet project.

I like to make them out of cotton yarn because I feel like it its durability and washability make it a great option for bags, and it holds its shape well.

In the next round you will make the handle by skipping some stitches around the top of the bag and adding chains to make the handle. You will then work single crochet stitches in those chains in the next round to make the straps. I made the straps 50 chains long, to make a longer strap add more chains, for a shorter handle work fewer chains, just make sure you work the same number of chains on both sides.

Round 27: ch 1, 9 sc, ch 50, sk 24 stitches, 18 sc, ch 50, sk 24 stitches, 9 sc, sl st to first sc to join (36 sc, 100 ch)

Round 28: ch 1, sc in each stitch, sl st to first sc to join (136 sc)

Round 29: ch 1, sc in each stitch, sl st to first sc to join (136 sc)

Finish off and weave in ends
