One of my goals recently has been to remake some of my older hat patterns that only made in one size so that they will include multiple sizes. A lot of my earlier hat patterns I only made in one size, depending on who I was making it for I may have made it only in adult size, or only child or toddler size, or sometimes even a baby or newborn size. But over time I started making each new pattern that I released in multiple sizes, typically 5 sizes including 3-6 months, 6-12 months, toddler, child, and adult.
So the plan is to revisit some of those older patterns and remake them to include a variety of sizes, instead of just the one that it was originally made in. I thought I would start with one of my favorite hats, the Criss Cross Hat you can see in the picture above. I originally made this one in an adult size, so now I have made it to include 5 sizes- 3-6 Month Baby, 6-12 Month Baby, Toddler, Child, and Adult. I did change up the adult pattern little bit, just how I make the final increase round, in addition to adding the included sizes, but you can still find the original pattern in the original post.
This hat combines rounds of crossed double crochet stitches with rounds of half double crochet worked in the third loop (camel stitch). The half double crochet rounds create a raised line separating the rounds of crossed double crochet stitches.
I finish the hat with a post stitch ribbing made with alternating front and back post stitches. In the original I also added a faux fur pom pom on the top. You could totally add the pom poms on any of the sizes, I just chose not to include them on this set, but I think they would look great if you choose to include them.
For this set of hats I used Big Twist Value yarn that I found at Michaels. I felt like it was just slightly thinner than the Loops and Threads Soft Classic that I used for the last set of hats that I made, but not enough to make a big difference in the finished size of the hats. Any similar medium weight yarn will work.

How to Crochet the Criss Cross Hat
You will need:
- medium weight acrylic (samples made in Big Twist Value Worsted in colors Denim, Light Rose, Soft Gray, Sage, and Dark Teal)
- I crochet hook (5.5 mm)
- yarn needle
- scissors

4 rounds of dc (40 dc) = 4.5"
