Nutcracker- Mini Amigurumi Advent Day 20

We are all the way to Day 20 of the Mini Amigurumi Advent, only 4 more days to go after this. I feel like it has kind of flown by. Today's pattern is a Nutcracker.

When I first decided I was going to make this one I had toy soldier/nutcracker on my list, because I knew I wanted to do one or the other but I wasn't sure which one I wanted to do. There wouldn't have been a huge difference between the two, just a few minor differences in the details. I didn't actually decide for sure which I was doing until I was actually in the process of making him. I ended up deciding on a nutcracker because I have already make a little Toy Soldier Christmas Ornament, but I have never made a nutcracker so I decided to go with the one that I had never done before.

The Nutcracker body is made similar to the Gingerbread man from a few days ago, with the body crocheted continuing on from the legs, rather than sewing the legs on. He has a belt and epaulettes, plus a little simple embroidery, to complete his uniform.

He has a tall black hat on his head with white hair sticking out underneath, and a big white mustache on his face. He is one of the tallest in the series, about 6.5", partially due to the height of his hat.

How to Crochet a Mini Nutcracker

Finished Size: about 6.5" tall

You will need:

Instructions:

The legs are crocheted first, then with one leg still on your hook you will begin the body by crocheting around both legs and continuing on from there. One round of the body is worked in the back loop only and the shirt edge is later worked into the front loops of that round. The arms are sewn on to the side, but rather than just sewing the top flat against the body like you normally would, you sew them more straight along the side, the epaulettes are placed on the shoulders and sewn on. The hair is a strip that is sewn on the head, just under the edge of the hat. The mustache, belt, and hat feather are added to finish the look, along with a couple embroidered stitches across the chest to complete the uniform.

Wrap belt around waist and stitch in place

Sew arms to side of body, rather than pinching the top and sewing at the shoulder you will want to sew them more straight along the side

Sew the epaulettes to the top of the arms with the open edge toward the body

Sew the hair wrapped around the back of the head so that when the hat is pulled on it will cover the top edge of the hair

Add a small amount of stuffing to the hat and sew on top of the head, just over the hair line

Sew the mustache to the face below the eyes

Sew the feather to the front of the hat
