5 Little Monsters: Alternating V-Stitch Water Bottle Carrier

Alternating V-Stitch Water Bottle Carrier

Just over a week ago I shared a roundup of small crochet projects that are perfect for summer and warm weather, times when you don't want big, heavy projects draped over you, and when you aren't going to wear hats and scarves. One of the things I included in that roundup was a water bottle carrier. I made that one a few years ago and thought maybe it was time to make another version.

A water bottle carrier is a a great summer project because it is perfect for outings when you want to carry a water bottle with you, or better yet- when you want kids to be able to carry their own water bottles so you don't end up lugging around a heavy bag full of everyone's water.

Take it on a walk, a hike, to the park, or the zoo. Any time you want to have water close by. You can easily make the strap shorter or longer depending on whether you want it to be used by a child or adult, as well as whether you want it to be worn crossbody or over one shoulder.

I made it sized to fit a disposable water bottle, but it can also fit some reusable water bottles depending on the size. I think most child size water bottles would fit, and the cheap Walmart water bottles with the screw on lids fit just fine. If your bottle fits the diameter of the carrier but is a little tall you can always add extra rounds to make it taller.

How to Crochet an Alternating V-Stitch Water Bottle Carrier

You will need:

Instructions:

Begin with magic ring, beginning ch does not count as a stitch

Round 1: ch 2, 10 hdc in mr, slip stitch to first hdc (10 hdc)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in each stitch around, slip stitch to first hdc (20 hdc)

Round 3: ch2, [2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next] around, slip stitch to first hdc (30 hdc)

Round 4: ch 2, hdc in blo of each stitch, sl st to first hdc to join (30 hdc)

Round 5: ch 2, hdc in each stitch, sl st to first hdc to join (30 hdc)

Round 6: ch 2, hdc in each stitch, sl st to first hdc to join (30 hdc)

Round 7: ch 2, [(dc, ch 1, dc) in first stitch, skip 2] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (10 v-stitches)

Round 8: sl st in first ch sp, ch 2, [3 dc in ch sp, sk 2 dc] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (30 dc)

Round 9: ch 2, [(dc, ch 1, dc) in first stitch, skip 2] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (10 v-stitches)

Round 10: sl st in first ch sp, ch 2, [3 dc in ch sp, sk 2 dc] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (30 dc)

Round 11: ch 2, [(dc, ch 1, dc) in first stitch, skip 2] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (10 v-stitches)

Round 12: sl st in first ch sp, ch 2, [3 dc in ch sp, sk 2 dc] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (30 dc)

Round 13: ch 1, sc in each stitch, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

That completes the bag portion of the carrier, now you will make the strap, I did 95 rows but you can make it longer or shorter as needed

Row 1: ch 1, sc in next 2 stitches (2 sc)

Row 2-95: ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch (2 sc)

Finish off, cut yarn, skip 14 stitches along the top of the carrier and being careful not to twist the strap stitch the strap to the next 2 stitches, weave in all ends.
