Back in July I shared a pattern for a little pioneer girl doll. As I was working on her I had the idea to turn that little doll into a witch for Halloween. I thought the size and shape would work perfectly for a little witch, the biggest change was just switching out the bonnet for a witch hat.
I have made a couple of witches before, one that I made several years ago with a round bottom and no legs, and a mini one that I made as part of my Halloween Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, plus I also have a Witch Bear.
When I have made witches in the past I have gone with a color palette that is kind of a traditional Halloween palette. Black, bright orange, purple, and lime green. I wanted to switch it up a little with this witch so I decided to use a pastel color palette instead. I started with a gray instead of black for the dress and hat, and for accent colors I chose a light purple and mint green.
I gave her little purple and green striped legs, and made the bottom half of the body in the same striped pattern, sort of like she is wearing striped tights. I used the same purple color that I used in the striped tights for her hair. I debated using a different color, but I decided to just stick with the colors I had already chosen to use. The hat, shoes, and dress were made in gray which meant that there was a lot of the gray so I added a little bit of green as a hat band for another little pop of accent color.
For this project I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic, although any similar medium weight yarn with work. For the skin tone I used Peach. For the dress I used Gray, and for the accent colors I used Amethyst and Mint.
Just like on the Pioneer Girl I chose to only add eyes to the face, and I used safety eyes for my doll. You can also embroider the face, this is the best idea if you plan on making the doll for small children. You can add a nose and mouth to the face in addition to the eyes if that is your preference. I think it looks pretty cute either way.

How to Crochet a Little Witch
You will need:
- medium weight yarn in desired colors for the skin, hair, dress, and accents (sample made in Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Peach, Gray, Amethyst, and Mint)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 8 mm safety eyes
- Polyfil fiberfill
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
Instructions:
Body/Head
Hair
Cut 23- 18"-20" lengths of yarn
Attach one strand of yarn into each open stitch from round 11 using a larks head knot (fold the strand in half, pull the folded end through the stitch, then pull the loose ends through the loop made by the folded end, pull to tighten
Divide the strands in half and braid each side, I would recommend placing the hair on the head before braiding to make sure the braids lay the way you want them to.
Skirt
The skirt is worked in the front loops left open in Round 10 of the body, you can start anywhere around the body but I recommend starting at the back so the seam will be less noticeable. Beginning ch does not count as a stitch
Make 1 using dress color and working directly onto the body
Round 1: Attach the yarn to one of the front loops from round 10, ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next 4] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (36 dc)
