5 Little Monsters: Crocheted Bear Ornament

Crocheted Bear Ornament

One last Christmas in July post today. Although I will have a small gift idea, part of the Little Gifts Sew Along, to share tomorrow but it isn't specifically Christmas themed.

A few years ago I made a series of crocheted ornaments that all had the same shape but were different   Christmas characters. There was a Santa, a Snowman, a Penguin, and a Soldier. I have wanted to make a few more to add to the set but over the past couple of years I hadn't gotten around to it. As I was thinking of Christmas projects to share this year both in July and later in the year leading up to Christmas I thought maybe it was time to revisit that ornament collection.

I came up with a few designs that I will be sharing over the next few months but today I have a little Bear Ornament to share. A bear was always on my list of animals to include in the set eventually, I did have a hard time decided whether to make it a brown bear or white like a polar bear. I decided on brown but I still think a polar bear would be really cute, maybe with a blue scarf.

All of the ornaments have the same body shape, the only differences are the color changes. And the bear is super easy as far as that goes because there are none. Then they have pieces added to turn them into whatever character or animal we are making. The bear has arms, ears, a muzzle and a scarf.

One of the great things about ornament is that they take so little yarn that they are great for using up scraps. You can use any shade of brown, black or white to make the bears (or any color if you want a colorful bear) and any color of scrap for the little scarf.

They also work up really quick so that is a bonus too. There is a little bit of sewing to attach the arms, ears, and other parts, but nothing too complicated. Finish it off with a little stitching to make the face and add a hanger to the top.
