It is Day 12, the final day of the Summer 2023 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. I hope you have enjoyed joining me on this mini crocheted camping trip.

Since the 6 animals included in the set were wrapped up yesterday with the little owl, today is another camping related object. This final item is a little backpack, complete with a bedroll strapped on.

When I first pictured making this backpack I pictured something that looked a little more like a hiking backpack and a little less like a school backpack and I'm not sure I succeeded there, but I think with the bedroll strapped on underneath it helps with the camping/hiking vibe.

The good news is that since it kind of looks like a school backpack too, you could leave the bedroll off for a school backpack and it would be a cute little back to school themed mini amigurumi.

As I was coming up with this design I had originally planned to make it in multiple colors, like the main backpack in one color with all of the pockets in another color, but I didn't want it to be too busy so I stuck with one color for everything except the top pocket for a little bit of contrast without going too crazy.

This is another one of those projects that you could easily make any color you wanted depending on what yarn colors you have. I was going for sort of a woodsy color combo with the green, brown, and rusty orange colors that I chose.

How to Crochet a Bitty Backpack

Finished Size: about 4" tall

You will need:

Instructions:

The backpack is made by making a chain and then working single crochet stitches in both sides of the chain, adding increases to make a flat base, then it is worked in the round like many of the other pieces. Most of the pieces in this pattern begin with chain rather than magic rings, the exception is the bedroll. And other than the backpack most of those are worked back and forth in rows rather than in the round.
