It is Day 5 of the Woodland Christmas Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. Although the majority of the patterns in this series will be animals, today's pattern is another of the nature type elements to go along with the mushroom from a couple of days ago. This time it is a Tiny Acorn.
This little acorn is one of the more simple patterns included in the series, which is kind of funny coming right after the fox that is one of the more complicated, at least in the number of pieces. Also, I think it is kind of funny that this is one of those items that the "mini" amigurumi version is actually bigger than the real thing.
It is made with just 3 pieces, the bottom/nut piece, the top/cap piece, and the tiny stem. You just need two colors of brown yarn, one darker and one lighter.
Like the mushroom you can decided if you want to add the little face of leave it off. I think the little face is cute and fun, but it definitely gives it a more cutesy style, and leaving the face off gives it a little bit more serious look. It just depends on what you prefer. After being undecided on the mushroom I decided to commit to the faces since I have done that with every other set, but I think either way works.
This one works up really fast and easy, and I think it would look really cute as an ornament on a woodland Christmas themed tree, and it could double as a fall decoration as well.

How to Crochet a Tiny Acorn
Finished Size about 3" tall
You will need:
- Worsted weight yarn in two shades of brown, light and dark (Sample made with Loops & Threads Impeccable in Soft Taupe, and Big Twist Value Worsted in Taupe)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6mm safety eyes (optional)
- black embroidery floss and needle (optional)
- stuffing
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
Instructions:
All of the pieces are made in the round beginning with a magic ring, except for the stem. If you choose to add a face you can add safety eyes (or embroidered eyes) and a little smile to the nut. The cap is made separately and sewn onto the nut.
Nut
Make 1 with yarn in lighter brown (sample with face made with Loops & Threads Impeccable in Soft Taupe), beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (8 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Rounds 6-10: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)
If adding a face insert safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8 about 3 stitches apart, embroider a smile just below the eyes
Finish off and set aside
Cap
Make 1 with darker brown yarn (sample made Big Twist Value Worsted in Taupe), beginning with a magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 sts] repeat around (30 sc)
Rounds 6-7: 1 sc in each st (30 sc)
Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing
Stem
Make 1 with darker brown yarn (sample made Big Twist Value Worsted in Taupe), beginning with a chain
ch 3
Row 1: turn, skip first ch (closest to hook), sl st in last 2 ch (2 sl st)
Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing
Sew stem to top of acorn cap (you can pull both your beginning and end tail through the top of the cap and knot on the inside, or you can stitch it on)
Stuff the acorn nut
Place the cap on the nut, slightly overlapping the edges, and stitch in place around, add more stuffing as needed as you stitch around
Weave in ends
