Bitty Bat- Fall Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along Day 7

Week 2 of the Halloween Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along is starting today with Day 7 and a little Bitty Bat. 

The Bitty Bat is made using the same body/head combination that I have used on my farm animals in the spring crochet along and most of the animals in the camping summer crochet along. It is also very similar to the ghost from Day 2, except that because the ghost had a pointy, twisty tail it started out a little bit different. 

I used a very dark gray for my bat, for the same reason I chose to use a dark gray for the cauldron, I wanted to be able to see the eyes and mouth a little better and felt like it would be too hard to see on black. I did use a different dark gray, that is almost like a heathered black, for the wings just for a slight contrast. 

The bat has pointy ears on top of its head and tiny feet, all of which are made in the round starting with a magic ring just like the body. Then it has little flat wings that are made working back and forth in rows.

How to Crochet a Bitty Bat

Finished Size: about 4.5" tall

You will need:

• medium weight yarn in dark gray and/or black (sample made with Loops and Threads Impeccable in Thunder and Charcoal)
• G crochet hook (4 mm)
• 2- 6 mm safety eyes
• black embroidery floss and embroidery needle
• Polyfil fiberfill
• yarn needle
• stitch markers 
• scissors

Instructions:

Body/Head

Make 1 with dark gray yarn, beginning with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)

Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)

Rounds 4-8: 1 sc in each st (18 sc)

Round 9: sc2tog around (9 sc)

Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you work

Round 10: 2 sc in each st (18 sc)

Round 11: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)

Rounds 12-15: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)

Insert safety eyes between round 13-14 a few stitches apart

Embroider mouth below eyes 

Round 16: [sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (18 sc)

Round 17: [sc2tog, sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)

Round 18: sc2tog around (6 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn, weave around opening to close and weave in end

Ears

Make 2 with dark gray yarn beginning with magic ring

 

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 4 sc (4 sc)

Round 2: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next] repeat (6 sc)

Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat (8 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Sew the ears to the top of the head

Feet

Make 2 with dark gray yarn beginning with magic ring

 

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: 1 sc in each st (6 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Sew the feet to the bottom of the body

Wings 

Make 2 with dark gray or black yarn

ch 8

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to the end (7 sc)

Row 2: ch 1, turn,  sc in first 6 sts (6 sc)

Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end (6 sc)

Row 4: ch 1, turn,  sc in first 5 sts (5 sc)

Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end (5 sc)

Turn your piece 90 degrees and sc evenly up the straight side of the wing, work 3 sc in the corner, sc in each st across the top

Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Sew the wings to the back so that the side and top that you finished in the last step form a point at the top of the wing and the bottom edge and stair stepped side form the bottom of the wing
