We are on Day 4 of the Fall 2023 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. So far we have a pumpkin, a ghost, a cauldron, and today we are adding a little Mini Mummy.
The mummy body is crocheted and then wrapped in long strands of chains to give it the wrapped mummy effect. In order to not have to cover the entire body with wraps, but instead just loosely wrap it, I made most of the body the same color as the wrap that was going on top. Hoping to give the effect of layers of wrapping. Only the face is a different color.
I made eyes and a mouth peeking through the wrap because that is what the rest of my patterns have, but I think it would also be cute to leave the mouth off and only have the eyes peeking through. It would also make it easier to wrap more of the face.
The mummy is slightly larger than the other pieces included in the set so far, he stands about 5" tall. He is also made in a way that the legs are crocheted first and then the body continues from the legs so it is all one piece, rather than sewing the legs on at the end. If you have been following my crochet alongs from the first one last Christmas- it is made very similar to the gingerbread man and nutcracker that were part of that series.
I used an off white color for my mummy because I didn't want a stark white, mummies are supposed to be old after all, but you could definitely use an actual white instead. You only need two colors, the wrapping color and a skin tone color, and you are ready to make a Mini Mummy.

How to Crochet a Mini Mummy
Finished Size: about 5" tall
You will need:
- medium weight yarn in off white or white and skin tone (sample made in Red Heart Super Saver Aran and Buff)
- G crochet hook (4 mm)
- 2- 6 mm safety eyes
- black embroidery floss and embroidery needle
- Polyfil fiberfill
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
Instructions:
All of the pieces except the wrappings are made in the round beginning with a magic ring.
You will make the legs first, set one aside, make the second, then without cutting your yarn you will continue making the body by joining the legs and working up in one piece.
Legs
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (9 sc)
Rounds 3-6: 1 sc in each st (9 sc)
First leg- finish off and cut yarn
Second leg- do not finish of or cut yarn, continue straight on to the body
Body/Head
Make 1 starting with white yarn, continuing on from legs
Round 1: sc in first 6 sts on the leg you are starting with, sc in each of the 9 sts on the other leg, sc in the last 3 sts of first leg (18 sc)
Round 2-6: 1 sc in each st (18 sc)
Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you work
Round 7: sc2tog around (9 sc)
Round 8: 2 sc in each st (18 sc)
Switch to skin tone yarn
Round 9: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 10-12: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)
Switch to white yarn
Round 13:1 sc in each st (24 sc)
Round 14: [sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (18 sc)
Insert safety eyes between rounds 11 and 12 about 3 stitches apart
Round 15: [sc2tog, sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 16: sc2tog around (6 sc)
Finish off, weave in ends
Embroider mouth below eyes if desired
Arms
Make 2 with white yarn beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2-5: 1 sc in each st (6 sc)
Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing
Sew the arms to the sides of the mummy at the neck
Wrappings
Make 2 of each size with white yarn
I used 2 sizes of wrappings and make 2 of each, one short one for each arm, 1 long one for around the head, and 1 long one for the body and legs. When making your chains you can wrap them around to get an idea of how they will look and if you feel like you need a longer or shorter chain than I made. I wrapped them around with gaps in-between to it doesn't need to cover the whole mummy, just wrap around enough to give the wrapped effect.
Long Wrapping- make 2
ch 100 (or number needed for desired length to wrap around head or body)
Short Wrapping - make 2
ch 20 (or number needed for desired length to wrap around arms)
Assembly
Wrap one short wrap around each arm and stitch in a few spots to hold in place
Wrap one long wrap around the head, leaving a gap for the eyes and mouth, stitch in a few spots to hold in place
Wrap the other long wrap up one leg, around the body, and down the other leg, stitch in a few spots to hold in place
